چکیده
that the molecular structure of an auxin may control its activity in growth by influencing the reaction reported here. On the basis of these experiments it is proposed that auxin may act in plant growth and metabolism at least in part by reacting with coenzyme A. It may be assumed that the reaction product is a high-energy ester like the thiol-esters of other acids with coenzyme A. From its position as an ester with coenzyme A, it is further suggested that auxin may act to control the wide variety of synthetic and metabolic reactions in plants which are known to require coenzyme A, and that in this manner the growth hormone may regulate plant growth.

Effects of Cycloheximide on Indoleacetic Acid-induced Ethylene Production in Pea Root Tips.
Cycloheximide inhibited ethylene production in excised pea root tips treated with high levels of indoleacetic acid (100 mum and 10 mum). In contrast, cycloheximide did not inhibit ethylene production induced by a lower concentration (1 mum) of indoleacetic acid unless it was added 2 hours before the indoleacetic acid treatment. These observations suggest that indoleacetic acid has two effects o...

متن کاملThe Effect of Gibberellic Acid and Stratification on Germination of Alstroemeria (Alstroemeria ligtu hybrid) Seed In Vitro and In Vivo Conditions
The dormancy characteristics and optimum conditions for seed germination of Alstroemeria ligtu had not been explained. In vitro and in vivo alstroemeria (A. ligtu hybrid) seed germination tests were conducted in a Randomized Completely Design at two different treatments (gibberellic acid (GA3) 0, 100, 200 and 400 mg/l with and without stratification in 5±1oC) in four replications. Seeds were pl...
متن کاملRapid effects of indoleacetic Acid and ethylene on the growth of intact pea roots.
Root auxanometers were used to determine the growth rates of individual intact primary roots accurately and quickly. The growth of pea (Pisum sativum L.) roots was inhibited by both indoleacetic acid and ethylene within 20 minutes. A supramaximal concentration of ethylene inhibited root growth less than did 5 to 20 mum indoleacetic acid, indicating that inhibition of root growth by auxin was no...

It has previously been shown that indoleacetic acid (IAA) applied to pea roots is in part clegraded and in part conjugated witlh aspartic acid to form indoleacetylaspartic acicl (IAAspA) (2, 6). WVhile other workers (9) have reported that IAA applied to pea roots is metabolically bound to tissue protein to give a Salkowski reactive derivative, w\e have found no evidlence of such a complex. almo...
